How Car Air Conditioning Works

In Saab cars and SUVs, the AC is like the systems in most other vehicles, working in four stages. First, the compressor pressurizes the refrigerant, turning it into a gas. Second, the condenser cools the gas, a process that turns it back into a fluid. Third, the expansion valve pulls in the liquid, where it becomes a low-pressure gas. Finally, the evaporator rapidly chills the gas with a fan.
